Hip Arthroscopy
Dr. Byrd pioneered the technique for performing arthroscopic surgery on the hip. He designed and developed instruments that are now commonly employed for this operation. Patients travel from all over the world to benefit from his expertise. Dr. Byrd has authored several text books on hip arthroscopy, representing the leading work on this subject, and has published over 100 scientific articles and chapters.
In addition, Dr. Byrd trains orthopaedic surgeons at Nashville Sports Medicine and at courses throughout this country and the world. Dr. Byrd developed a coding system for this procedure that has been adopted by the American Medical Association. Because of this initiative by Dr. Byrd, insurance companies will now approve this procedure, which they had previously denied for patients claiming it was experimental. Thus, all patients now have the opportunity to benefit from this technology. |
